Zikr: An evening of sacred sufi chanting
Thursday September 30, 2010 • 8:00pm
Rising Tide International • 5102 Swift Rd., Sarasota, FL 34231

Sound is the most powerful expression of the breath and when sound is in the form of a sacred phrase, a phrase that came from the abstract to the world of form, that sound can invite a condition of altered conscioussness. Join us in creating a temple of sacred sound where deep transformation can occur. The zikr is the both the starting point and the end of the path for sufi mystics. Come and be the one note that completes the divine symphony for this night. There is no cause for fear, it is only misguided imagination. (Love Donation)

The Dances of Universal Peace were created in the late 1960’s by Samuel L. Lewis (1896-1971), a Sufi Murshid (teacher) and Zen Master, who also studied deeply in the mystical traditions of Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity. He envisioned them as a way to awaken life-energy, joy and peace for all who shared in them by using breath, sacred sound and consciouss movement. His original body of about 50 dances, have grown and spread to dance circles throughout the world. (Suggested Donation-$15)
